MANAGEMENT-IN-PRACTICE (MIP)
ACADEMIC YEARS 2006-2008
Introduction and Overview
Management-In-Practice (MIP) is an innovative programme developed by TAPMI to enhance the faculty-student-industry interaction. The MIP programme is designed to enable students of TAPMI, during their two-year management education, spend quality time in industry.
The four components of the MIP are:

Learning phase - students
spend 3 days in organizations to understand
their working and
functions
|
|
2.
|
Working phase - students
spend about 2 months in organizations and
work on specific
projects
|
|
3.
|
Report
Finalization phase - students
spend about 10 weeks in the Institute working on
the analysis of the issues and concerns
identified during the Working
phase
|
|
4.
|
Technical
Material Preparation phase - students
prepare Case materials and teaching notes based
on the analysis made during the previous
phase.

Major Objectives
The major expected outcomes from the MIP programme are:

a.
|
students understand organizations and their working, work on specific projects, identify "real-life" issues and managerial concerns, analyse the issues, and prepare Cases for academic and industry purposes
|
|
b.
|
faculty lead a group of students on their project work, establish links and contacts in industry, and develop academic inputs based on industry practices
|
|
c.
|
industry appreciates the rigour of management education and research, and constantly updates its knowledge and skills on management functions.

Calendar 2006 - 2008 The MIP
programme calendar for 2006 - 2008 is as
below: December 2006 or January 2007 (3 days) - students visit chosen
small and medium enterprises near the institute to
learn about the organizations and their functions;
study the internal processes
mid April
to mid June 2007 (2 months) - students spend
time in the organizations to work on specifically
identified projects
June to September
2007 (10 weeks) - students discuss identified
organizational issues and concerns in class and
with their faculty mentors; carry out detailed
analysis and prepare reports for submission to
organizations
October to December
2007 (10 weeks) - students, under the guidance
of their faculty mentors, prepare Case studies and
teaching notes arising out of their project work
and analysis, for academic and industry use
Operationalisation of the MIP programme
Organisations interested in
enlisting our students for phase 2 of the
MIP programme are requested to contact the
Coordinator - MIP or student members of the
Placement Committee and ask for detailed profiles of the students
for selection. These organizations may conduct
their Pre-Placement Talks and Selection process on
campus from September 2006, on a mutually
convenient date.
