AUTONOMY AND INDEPENDENCE
TAPMI enjoys full autonomy and independence in two crucial dimensions.
Financial Autonomy
TAPMI generates enough revenues to meet all its operating expenditure, capital funds, and faculty development. The primary sources are student fees, executive education and consultancy services, and investment income. TAPMI has resorted to upward revision of its fee structure conservatively, in line with its constantly improving reputation, infrastructure and programme quality.
This financial autonomy has enabled TAPMI to offer a remuneration package to its faculty comparable to institutes of national importance like the IIMs, IITs and
IISc.
Academic Autonomy
TAPMI is fully autonomous in all academic matters- faculty recruitment, programmes, admissions, curriculum design, course offerings, evaluation and assessment and award of diplomas. TAPMI is not affiliated to any university. Therefore, it is not constrained by any bureaucratic rigidity in revising its curriculum, compensation packages etc.
However, TAPMI is very fastidious about authenticity and quality. In benchmarking itself, it has gone beyond statuary approvals from the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and accreditation by the AICTE's National Board of Accreditation (NBA) with the highest possible rating of A. It has voluntarily secured the accreditation with the highest possible rating of "5-stars" from the University Grant Commission's (UGC's) autonomous National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has recognised its PGDM as equivalent to an MBA. TAPMI has initiated the process of getting internationally recognized accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
TAPMI's autonomy enables its faculty to enjoy similar autonomy in all academic matters. TAPMI is a 'faculty-run' institution. Within the overall guidelines provided by its Governing Council, individual faculty and faculty committees are responsible (and accountable) for managing all its academic activities. Its curriculum undergoes an annual review. Course offerings are renewed every year. Admission standards are continuously fine-tuned.
What does it mean to our Stakeholders?
- Ensure that TAPMI admits students based purely on merits - both academic and personality
- Its curriculum is 'current' as its responds to emerging needs of industry
- Its services meet market needs - otherwise we would not be able to earn our upkeep
- It innovates - courses (Business Ethics, Business Awareness, MIP…); pedagogy (joint case-writing by faculty and students, outbound programme, Brandscan)
