ACADEMIC RIGOUR AND FACULTY-STUDENT INTERACTION

TAPMI can take the credit for being among the top-5 institutes in the country in terms of its academic rigour and faculty-student interaction. This is based on opinions of several of our friends and acquaintances working in other institutes of repute. In addition, one of the studies done by Business Today and published in June 1998, showed TAPMI as the 7th best institute to be rated by students (all India). This is the result of their very high evaluation of the institute on sub-parameters of academic rigour and faculty interaction intensity.

Academic Rigour

Components forming the academic rigour in TAPMI include:

  • About 110 courses in the two-year period of study
  • Insistence on students to buy a recommended text book for each course
  • Very carefully prepared course material supplied by the faculty for each course, in addition to the text book
  • Insistence on pre-read and post-read before and after each class
  • Announced and un-announced quizzes and tests in class, as apart of continuous evaluation and grading
  • Usage of high quality pedagogies, including case-analyses, role plays, and simulation games
  • 7-10 components of evaluation of a student in each course, in addition to mid term and end term exams in each course.
  • A business awareness test conducted every week , based on that week's business magazine and newspaper reading
  • 100% compulsory attendance for students for each course

Faculty- Student Interaction

TAPMI always had a culture of facilitating and supporting students in all their activities. TAPMI believes that to ensure academic rigour, the frequency and intensity of interactions between students and faculty should be high. This includes 'in class' as well as 'out of class' interactions. Faculty support and guide students in most of their curricular and co-curricular activities. The high Faculty- Students interaction is the result of the following.

  • Tapmi may be the only very few management institutes, which has insitutionalised Faculty Coaching / Mentoring / Counseling system, under which students are encouraged to meet faculty regularly to discuss their academic as well as non-academic concerns and issues
  • TAPMI has developed an instrument for self assessment for students, which they have to share and discuss with their 'mentor' faculty every term.
  • Students carry out BrandScan (one of the two best research fairs in the country among b-schools) with the active guidance and direction from the faculty in various stages of the fair's planning and implementation
  • TAPMI students stage the annual management meet called Atharva and the highly regarded all India business plan contest called Omega with the active guidance from faculty members
