Nature and Extent of involvement of faculty and students in academic affairs/improvements:

Regarding academic affairs a faculty member would be nominated for a period of two years minimum to take charge of PGP administration as Chairman-PGP.  Further a PGP Committee is a recommendatory body to deal with PGP related matters, such as programme content, rules and regulations, scheduling,  etc.  similarly the admission to the PGP is managed by a faculty member nominated as Chairman-Admissions supported by a Admissions Committee.  Placement activities are managed by Chairman-Placement supported by Placement Committee and student committee.

 

Regarding students involvement there are several forums over 10 numbers to take care of planning and conduct of co-curricular and extra curricular activities including major management events such as Atharva, Marketing fair BrandScan and Business Plan contest such as Sankalp.

The academic council consisting of all the faculty members is responsible for review of academic courses, programme objectives, modifications and recommendation to award the PGDM diploma to the eligible students.

Prof. Nagabrahmam, Director, M.Com, M.Litt., Fellow-IIMA.

Prof. D. Nagabrahmam, Director, is a Fellow of the IIM Ahmedabad and has nearly 30 years of teaching and research experience. He has carried out extensive field-based research in Management, Rural Management, Health Management, Small Industry and Farmers’ Organisations, Co-operatives, NGOs and other voluntary organizations. He has published a number of papers and book chapters in reputed journals. He has edited three volumes of cases on Rural Management which were published by IRMA. Before joining TAPMI as Director in 1992, he was on the Faculty of Commerce, Osmania University and later at the Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA).

His current interests include Managerial Leadership, Institution Building, Learning Organizations and Institutions. He is a guide for MAHE Doctoral Programme in Management.

Prof. Anuradha, M.A., Ph.D., Fellow-NIBM

Prof Ms. Anuradha Rangan is a Post Graduate in Public Administration and a Fellow of the National Institute of Bank Management. She obtained her Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology from SNDT University for Women, Mumbai. She has 20 years of work experience, comprising Post-Graduate teaching, and Management Consultancy. She has conducted a large number of Executive Development Programmes, handled many consultancy assignments and empirical research projects.

Her areas of academic interest are Organizational Design, Management of Change, and Development in Public and Private sectors.

Prof. R. Bharth, B.Sc.(Hons), PGDM (IIMC)

Prof. Bharath has done his B.Sc. (Hons) from Delhi University and PGDM from IIM Calcutta.  Specialized in Marketing and Strategy and has taught Strategic Management and Business Ethics courses at PG levels.  Has published papers also one book.

Prof. Toppur N Badri, MS., Ph.D (Massachusetts Univ., USA)

Prof. Toppur N Badri is a Graduate from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi and an M.S. from Clemson University, USA. He obtained his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of Massachusetts, USA.

His current interests are in Business Statistics, and Operations Research.

 

Prof. P C Biswal, M.A., M.Phil., Ph.D.

Prof. Pratap Chandra Biswal is the ICICI Bank BFSI Chair Professor at TAPMI. He received his doctorate from University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad. His teaching interests are Risk Management and Derivatives, Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management, Financial Markets and Institutions, and Open Economy Macroeconomics. His research interest is in Risk Management and Derivatives, and Applied Finance. He has been selected for the ICICI Chair Professorship in Banking and Financial Services for a period of three years since August 2007 by ICICI Bank, Mumbai.

 

Prof Biswal has published papers in leading journals like Economic Political Weekly, Journal of Quantitative Economics, Indian Journal of Economics, Journal of Social and Economic Development, Udyog Pragati et cetera. He presented papers in National and International Seminars and Conferences on various topics in Finance and Economics.

 

Prior to Joining TAPMI, he worked in Institute for Studies in Industrial Development, New Delhi.

Prof. Chakradhara Panda, M.A., M.Phil, Ph.D

Dr. Chakradhara Panda is an Associate Professor at TAPMI. He has obtained his M.A., M. Phil. and Ph.D. in Economics from University of Hyderabad, India. Prior to joining TAPMI, he has worked in Addis Ababa University, Addis Ababa; ICFAI Business School, Hyderabad and Indian Institute of Finance, New Delhi.

 

Dr. Panda’s teaching interests include Macro Economics, Managerial Economics, Indian Financial System, International Finance, Monetary Economics and Applied Econometrics. His research interests lie in the areas of Financial Market Modeling, Forecasting and Analysis, Empirical Finance and International Finance, Macro Economics Research, Neural Networks, Econometrics and Applied Time Series Analysis.

 

Dr. Panda has published papers in leading refereed international and national journals like Journal of Policy Modeling, Singapore Economic Review, South Asia Economic Journal, International Journal of Applied Business and Economic Research, Economic Political Weekly, ICFAI Journal of Applied Finance, Indian Journal of Economics and Business and Asian – African Journal of Economics and Econometrics. Prof. Elankumaran S, M.Com, M.Phil, Ph.D.

Dr S Elankumaran has earned his Ph. D in Commerce from Pondicherry University, Pondicherry. He has two decades of teaching and research experience in the field of management.  At present he holds the position of Associate Professor at T A Pai Management Institute, Manipal.    Until recently, he was associated with Management Centre for Human Values (MCHV), Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, Kolkata as OCL Visiting Assistant Professor.

 

He has taught courses like `Management by Human Values’, `Business Ethics’, `Ethics in International Business’, `Corporate Social Responsibility’, ‘Behavioural Science’ and `Power & Politics in Workplace’. 

 

His initial research interest was in Organizational Behavior where he conducted research on topics like personality, organizational climate, job involvement and job satisfaction. His present research focus is on `Corporate Social Responsibility’, `Corporate Codes of Ethics/Conduct’, ‘Cross-cultural Study on Ethics’ and `Leadership Spirit: Insights from the Past’. His research and writings have appeared in refereed international journals like International Journal of Value-Based Management, Journal of Human Values and Journal of Business Ethics.

Prof. Gururaj Kidiyoor, B.E., PGDM (TAPMI)

Prof. Gururaj H Kidiyoor is an alumnus of TAPMI. He has nearly 10 years of experience in Industry. Prior to joining TAPMI, he worked in TVS Electronics, Wipro, and Digital Equipment. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. on the research topic “Perceived Risk in Adoption of High Technology Products in Business - Buying” under Manipal University, Manipal.



His academic interests include marketing of High-tech Products, Industrial Marketing and Technology Marketing.

Dr. Jaba Mukherjee Gupta, M.A., Ph.D.

(Date of birth: 27-07-1958)

Prof. Jaba M. Gupta has a Post Graduate degree in English (specialized in Linguistics and English language teaching) and a Ph.D. in the field of Postcolonial literature from Patna University. She is also pursuing research interests in Management Education, which she developed while working as a Research and Administrative Assistant in the Department of Organization and Leadership at the University of San Francisco, USA.


Her teaching experience of more than fifteen years spans various areas including modern English Literature, Language and Communication for Management and Communication in a Business Environment. Prof. Jaba M. Gupta's goal is to prepare present and future business leaders to manage the communication demands of a highly competitive, rapidly changing global marketplace. To that end, she strives to equip students with the communication skills that will enable them to compete successfully in the business environment of the 21 st century.


Prof. Jaba Mukherjee Gupta is also a writer and has published several poems and short stories in India and in the USA.

Prof. Jaims K J., M.A., PGDRM (IRMA)

K. J. Jaims has a Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Management from IRMA, Anand.  He is also an M.A. in English Literature from Calicut University, Kerala. His ten-year industry  experience has been  in marketing with four food firms  in India, spread over  Dairy, Fisheries, Fruits and Vegetables, Spices, Soyabean, and Edible oils  in the co-operative and the corporate sectors. Additionally, he has six years of professional record in action-consulting and training, especially with the retail organizations. His academic experience of facilitating MBA students in marketing has been for three and a half years, prior to joining TAPMI in June 2007, as Associate Professor. Consumer Behaviour, and Marketing Research are his preferred teaching areas.

 

As for research interests, he is keen on experiential branding with specific reference to the theme parks, and the aviation industry in the country.

Prof. Madhuchhanda Das Aundhe, Fellow-IIMB

(Date of birth: 08-01-1967)

Prof. Madhuchanda Das Aundhe is a Fellow of IIM Bangalore. Her area of specialization is Information Systems. She has 7 years of industry experience, of which 3 years is in the software industry. She is presently based in Bangalore at Essae-TAPMI Academy.



Her areas of academic interest are Business Process Modeling and Reengineering. and System Analysis and Design.

Prof. Mohan Kumar, B.Sc. (Engg), MSE (Michigan, USA)

Prof. V. Mohan Kumar is a Graduate in Electrical Engineering and obtained his Masters Diploma in Computer, Information and Control Engineering from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA. He has over 20 years of experience in industry and teaching.

His academic interests include Management Information Systems and Software Project Management.

Prof. Natarajan, M.A., PGDRM (IRMA), Ph.D.
(Date of birth: 05-12-1958)

Prof R. C. Natarajan has been with TAPMI since 1999. He has done Ph.D in management from Manipal University. His doctoral work was on “Trust and Monitoring in Administered Distribution Channel”. He completed his MA in Economics from JNU, New Delhi and PGDRM from IRMA, Anand. He has over 15 years of experience in industry. Prior to joining TAPMI, he worked in the areas of Marketing and Sales Management in the FMCG sector, including Amul where he spent five years in managing a branch.

 

Prof. Natarajan won the Best Case Writing Award of Association of Indian Management Schools in 2001. He has also published two case analyses titled “Victor Brand” and “Kurlon Ltd.” in “Vikalpa” of IIM-Ahmedabad. In addition, he has to his credit research-publications in ICFAI Journal of Marketing Management, Advertising Express and ICFAI Journal of Supply Chain Management, all relating to distribution management. He presented a research paper in the 2007 INFORMS-Marketing Science International Conference at SMU, Singapore.

 

Prof. Natarajan teaches Distribution Management, Marketing Strategy and Decision Making. He is well-versed in MarkStrat simulation and Beer Game, both of which he has been handling over six years in TAPMI. He has developed a simulation game in Distribution Management titled “Fantasia Distribution”, which is in beta-stage.

Prof. Natarajan’s research interests are in Distribution Channel Management, Principal-Agent Relationship, Trust, Inter-organisational Control, Conflict Management and System Dynamics.

Prof. Natarajan is currently holding the Chair of the Post-graduate Programme in Management at TAPMI. He also co-ordinates the Students’ Activities, both co-curricular and extra-curricular.

Prof. M. S. Pillai, M.Com., PGDHRM

(Date of birth: 30-05-1943)

Prof. Pillai has done M.Com and PGDHRM.  Has over 40 years of experience. His areas of specialization are Organization Behaviour, HRM and functional HRM Electives, Organization Development.  Has guided Post graduate students in management.  Presented papers in national conferences and also ILO sponsored conferences in Africa.  Written books on Business and Economic Statistics.  He also has served as Project leader in UNDP/ILO project on Management Development for State owned Enterprises in Liberia, UNDTCD and USAID.  He has also served as Consultant to ILO, UNDTCD and USAID.

Prof. Rajagopalan A V, ACA, M.A., M.Phil, Ph.D., FICWA

(Date of birth: 11-05-1945)

Professor A.V.Rajagopalan is a graduate in Commerce and is a Chartered Accountant with an All-India Rank. He is a Fellow member of the Institute of Cost & works Accountants of India and has Masters and M.Phil degrees in Economics. Besides, he holds an M.Phil degree in Management and got his Doctoral degree for his work in linking Managerial concepts with the ancient Indian texts.

 

He has spent over 30 years in the finance and managerial spheres of various institutions in India and abroad. He has worked in India with Maruti, NDDB, AMUL and Coal India and was a consultant for World Bank and USAID projects. He worked for the Ministry of Finance & Economic Development, Government of Botswana in Southern Africa and for a World Bank funded agricultural development project in Nigeria.

 

He teaches Management Control Systems and Managerial Accounting. His current research areas are in the fields of Governance and Financial Reforms. He has earlier worked for the Institute of Finance Management, Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania and the Institute of Cost & Works Accountants of India, Chennai. He had been a faculty with the BIM-Bangalore for its various programmes. He has contributed several papers and has conducted a number of Executive Development Projects for officials in the Government, Parastatal, Cooperative and Private sectors in India and Africa.

Prof. R. Rajagopalan, MMS, Fellow-IIMA, ASP

(Date of birth: 02-04-1956)

Prof. R. Rajagopalan is a Fellow of the IIM Ahmedabad and carried out advanced studies in International Economic Policy Research at the Institute of World Economics, Kiel, Germany. Prior to joining TAPMI, he was on the faculty of the Institute of Rural Management (IRMA), Anand for fifteen years.


Prof Rajagopalan has published three edited volumes on “Rediscovering Co-operation”. He has published research papers in the Journal of the Operations Research Society, Economic and Political Weekly, Journal of the Indian School of Political Economy, Vikalpa and Management Accountant. He is a guide for MAHE Doctoral Programme in Management.


His current teaching and research interests are in Macro and Micro Economic Analysis for Management, Management Education and Public Policy Analysis.

Prof. Rajiv V Shah,  M.Com. FICWA

(Date of birth: 13-04-1971)

Rajiv Shah has a Post Graduate degree in Commerce from the Madurai Kamaraj University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India. He has completed the Licentiate level of Insurance (General) from the Insurance Institute of India and also the Diploma in French from l’Alliance Francaise d’Ahmedabad .

His areas of interest are Management Accounting, Advanced Accounting, Financial Management and Direct Tax Laws.

 

Prior to joining TAPMI in October 2007, Rajiv Shah brings with him work experience of 16 years in private as well as government sectors. He was an international financial researcher for 2 years at CIFAR Emerging Capital Markets Pvt. Ltd., Ahmedabad and thereafter joined the Income Tax Department. Out of the 14 years in the department, he was a full time faculty member in the Staff Training Unit/Regional Training Institute for about 7 years for the areas of Accountancy, interpretation of accounting statements, specific areas of Direct Tax Laws, etc.  During the remaining period, he was associated with diverse areas such as tax assessments, investigation and judicial sections.

 

During the last 7 years, he had also been a regular visiting faculty to over 10 prestigious Management institutions in and around Ahmedabad, such as the EDI of India, ICFAI Business School, I.I.P.M., B.K. School of Business Management, etc., for the subjects of Management Accounting, Financial Management, Corporate Taxation, etc.

 

He is keenly interested in making Accountancy more understandable for Non Commerce students by bringing a philosophical angle to its study.

Prof. N. Ramesh is a Graduate in Engineering and Post Graduate in Management from IIM Bangalore. He is presently based in Bangalore.

Prof. Simon George, M.Sc., MBA, Ph.D
(Date of birth: 01-12-1955)

Presently working as Professor in the Marketing area of T.A. Pai Management Institute, Manipal. Joined TAPMI in 1991. He teaches courses like Marketing, Brand Management and Services Marketing. Loves to teach through cases and also enjoys writing cases. His cases have been published in Vikalpa—journal of IIM Ahmedabad. He is also in the expert panel of reviewers in the IIM Banglore’s management journal. He also had worked in the electronics component industry for about 3 years before getting into academics. He has about 20 years of teaching experience.


He regularly conducts training programmmes for practicing managers. He has conducted several Executive Education Programmes in Marketing for companies like Ashok Leyland Ltd, Infosys, Jindal Steel, BPL, ECE Elevators, Corporation Bank, Syndicate Bank etc. He is acting as the faculty coordinator of BrandScan – a very reputed and industry accepted marketing research fair organized by TAPMI. Recently he brought out a compendium of articles titled "Scanning the brands and the market" – which is a collection of articles based on live market research projects guided by him under BrandScan.


Recently he was invited to teach a Marketing course, in the Spring semester in Oakland University, Detroit, Michigan, US. He is also a Professional Member of the American Marketing Association.

Prof. A Sivakumar, B.Sc., (Agri), MBM, Ph.D.

(Date of birth: 11-01-1968)

Dr A. Sivakumar is a graduate in agriculture and a Post Graduate in Business Management. Prior to joining TAPMI he worked for about two years in an ICAR organisation. He is a regular guest columnist in Retail Biz - the retail sector magazine - of the Economic Times. He is on the Board of the Association of International Business India Chapter and a member of the Indian Society Of Agribusiness Professionals. He was awarded Ph.D. in Agribusiness Marketing by Karnatak University, Dharwad. He has been identified as one of the External Examiners for Thesis Evaluation for MBA program of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.


His interests are in the areas of retail management, written communication, international agribusiness and marketing management.

Prof. Satyajit Majumdar, B.E., Grad IE, MBA, M.Phil., Ph.D (BITS, Pilani)

Prof. Satyajit Majumdar has graduated in Electrical Engineering and also in Industrial Engineering. He is a post-graduate in Management and has obtained App. M. Phil. in Management and Ph. D. from Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani (popularly known as BITS). He is a Fellow of Institution of Engineers(India) and has also received Senior Diploma in Vocal Music from Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya.

Prof. Majumdar was associated as Faculty with S. G. S. Institute of Technology and Science, Indore (popularly known as SGSITS) and as Senior Executive Engineer in Coal India Limited - managing maintenance, projects, power plant and coal handling plant for about 12 years. He was with Indian Statistical Institute as Consultant in Quality Management for about 5 years. He was Assistant Professor with Institute of Professional Education and Research (a B School) in Bhopal for 5 years. Also for more than 2 years, he was Advisor to Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Madhya Pradesh on Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) related matters.

Prof. Majumdar has traveled to U.K., France, Japan, Norway and Thailand to present papers and for training. He was also invited to chair a technical session in the International Conference on Quality held in Yokohama (Japan) in 1996. Prof. Majumdar has some papers to his credit written in the areas of TQM, Business Excellence and application of Quantitative Techniques, published in journals. He has presented many papers in National and International seminars and conferences.

Since last 12 years, he is associated with several organisations in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujrat, Dadra and Goa as Consultant and faculty in Business Excellence and Strategic Management with specific focus on management of Small businesses. He focuses on Indian ethos and values in teaching and consulting work, he follows and also supports others in practicing Yoga - way of life.

At present he is associated with T A Pai Management Institute, Manipal as Associate Professor. He teaches operations management, quality management, entrepreneurship and growth strategy related courses. He is also visiting faculty to many national level education and training institutions, and Advisor to ‘Management Xtra’ which provides  collection of peer reviewed management journals and online support for students, teachers and researchers, featuring 110 full text journals and reviews from 300 management journals.  Prof. Majumdar is also responsible for coordinating ‘Center for Small Business Management’ set up by the Institute to support the micro, small and medium scale enterprises, also coordinating the Faculty Working Group – Entrepreneurship.

 

His research area of interest is strategic entrepreneurship especially growth strategies of small and large business organizations. He has many research papers to his credit in national and international journals. His case study ‘Restructuring for growth in Nishotech’ was awarded as one of the best cases by the Society of Entrepreneurship Educators, Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.

Prof. Raghunath Rudran, B.Tech., PGDRM (IRMA)

Prof. Raghunath Rudran is B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from IIT Kanpur and PGDRM from Institute of Rural Management, Anand. He has over 15 years of experience in the industry. Prior to joining TAPMI, he was General Manager in Galaxy Surfactants Limited, Mumbai He has worked in Karnataka Co-operative Oil Seeds Grower's Federation as Assistant Plant Manager and in various capacities before becoming the General Manager in 1996. He has extensive experience in commissioning and running of chemical plants. His interest lies in the areas of Production & Operations Management.

 

Prof. Saji K. Mathew, B.Tech., Ph.D (IIIT)

Prof. Saji K. Mathew graduated in Applied Electronics and Instrumentation from College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram. He has ten years of work experience in industrial automation. He successfully defended his PhD thesis at the Indian Institute of Information Technology & Management, Gwalior. His research papers have been published in reputed national and international journals. He currently teaches Systems Analysis & Design, Business Modeling & Simulation using Soft Computing, Application Development Outsourcing, Management Information Systems etc. His current research interests include offshore IT outsourcing, risk assessment in offshore projects etc.

Prof. A.S. Vasudev Rao, B.E., PGDBM., Ph.D.

Prof. A S Vasudev Rao is a graduate in Engineering from KREC, Surathkal (presently NITK) and a Post Graduate in Management from XLRI, Jamshedpur.  He obtained his Ph. D. in Management from Karnatak University, Dharwad.

He has over 40 years of experience in industry, consulting and academics.  His main areas of experience are in Project Engineering and Design, Technical Consultancy, Entrepreneurship Development and teaching management courses.  Prior to joining TAPMI, he has worked in Tata Steel, TEcSOK, a technical consultancy organization, and at KREC-STEP, a Science & Technology Entrepreneurs’ Park, as Director.

 

He has extended training and consultancy for feasibility studies, implementation and operations management to a number of Small & Medium Enterprises.  His research interests are in Entrepreneurial opportunity recognition, Technology Management, Small Business Management and Family Business studies.

 

He teaches courses on Entrepreneurship, Project Management, Technology Management and Small Business Management.

Prof. Vijaya V., M.A., M.Phil, Ph.D (IIT-M)

Prof. V. Vijaya has her core specialization in Clinical Psychology from University of Madras and has obtained her Ph.D from the Indian Institute of Technology - Madras in the area of Human Resource Management. She has been teaching Behavioural science courses for 7 years.

FEE total academic fee for two years PGDM progrmme is Rs.4.10 lakhs including caution deposits.  The fee is collected in four installments spread over two years.  However when the institute activities commence from the new management campus from 2008-09 to meet the fixed and variable costs of the operations the fee payable would be reviewed and revised to a higher amount of approximately of Rs.5.00 lakhs to start with.  As such there is no fee waiver scheme.  However the students based on their academic merits have been receiving scholarships from Ratan Tata Trust since last few years.
Estimated cost of Board and Lodging in Hostels: Hostel fee at present is Rs.75,000/- for two years and it is collected in two yearly installments. Besides the mess expenses would be approximately Rs.1,400/- per month.

CRITERIA FOR GD/PERSONAL INTERVIEW

Norms adopted for calling the candidates for Group Discussion/Personal Interview. CAT / GMAT Scores, the short listed candidates based on the cretira would be informed by written call letters as well as by information through the institute’s website indicating the short listing or otherwise.

Attributes for evaluation in GD/Interview: Participation level in GD, written summary of GD, personal interview – general awareness about industry and business, knowledge base, academic assessment, attitudes, communication skills and overall personality.

RESULTS

Composition of evaluation team with the brief profiles of Members :

Evaluation team is made of a 3 member panel consisting typically

  1. One TAPMI faculty
  2. One Industry Personnel
  3. One TAPMI Alumni

 

As such there is no elimination process from GDPI.  All the shortlisted candidates attending the GD will attend all the components of the selection process including a final interview by the Director’s panel.  Thereafter considering the weightages of the scores allocated to the candidates in the selection process a final rank will be generated.  Based on this the offer letters are sent to the candidates for admitting finally 100 students per batch.
